Panda Class

This is our teacher – Mrs Potts
Reception
Each morning when we come into class, we hang our coats on our pegs – these have pictures on them that we have chosen ourselves. Then we put our lunch boxes, book bags and water bottles in their special places and peg our names on the washing line so that everyone knows we are in school. Then we choose a table to sit at with the grown up who has brought us to school and we can play together for a little while. When Mrs Potts jingles the chimes we stop playing, keep very still and wiggle our fingers to show we are listening. Then it is time to tidy up.
Mrs Potts and Mrs Herron (our teaching assistant) look after us in Panda class. We have lots of jobs to do each morning – we take the register, sing our ‘days of the week’ song, change the date and choose our special Panda helpers for the day. These two children have special chairs to suit on and important jobs to do throughout the day. We also look at our ‘planning cards’ so that we all know what we are going to do that day.
‘We have a lovely big, colourful classroom full of lots of things to play with and lots of things to look at on the walls. ‘I like planning and choosing the play dough,’ - Ethan. ‘I like the house best – with the babies and playing mummies.’ - Heidi. ‘I liked painting our faces’ - Daniel.
At the start of each term we decide what we would like to find out about. WE all share our ideas. Some of the topics we have had are: ‘Whizzy Wheels’, ‘Once upon a time,’ ‘Pirates’ and ‘Scales and Tails.’
In Panda Time we play with a partner and choose an activity together. ‘I like everything,’ - Olivia. We have literacy and numeracy everyday and we learn our sounds through ‘Jolly Phonics.’
At morning playtime we have free fruit to eat and milk to drink to help keep us healthy. At lunchtime Mrs Boughton looks after us. ‘I like going outside at lunchtime – I like playing with the balls,’ - Zoe
In July we went on a trip to Avon Wildlife Park. You can see some of our photographs by clicking on the link below.
