This is our teacher – Miss Larcombe

Year 3

In Monkey Class we always try to listen and concentrate so that we can learn. We are confident to ask questions and to explore our solutions. ‘We are all really sensible and nearly everyone tries to answer questions about different things’ - Megan. We always do our best to be kind and helpful to each other. ‘We are kind and gentle’ – Kai. As a class, we write our Golden Rules – rules we all agree to follow to make our classroom a happy place. We make sure the rules are fair and that everyone agrees with them.

In Monkey Class, we always persevere with things and if we find things too hard we know lots of ways to get help. We can ask Miss Larcombe, one of our fantastic teaching assistants (Mrs Carver, Mrs Manley or Mrs Norris), our friends, or use the classroom resources to help us. Sometimes we work in talking partners or ‘talk time trios’ – three children working together – and we can ask our talk time trio buddies to help us too. ‘If we’re stuck doing something you can go and ask somebody or read the questions until you understand’ – Kerrigan. We have Literacy and Numeracy every day. This term we have written rap poems in Literacy and explored a science experiment in our Numeracy lessons. ‘In Literacy we have been learning to have neat handwriting’ – Tyler.

On Mondays, we get to go swimming. We have lots of fun, whilst learning swimming skills and how to keep safe around water. ‘We had our t-shirts on, and then we jumped in. Then we had to go through a hoop with our eyes open – if you fell in by a river you wouldn’t have your swimming trunks on or your goggles’ – Jack. On Wednesdays, we have PE where everyone works together to have fun. ‘It gives us lots of exercise’ – Anja. Sometimes we learn gymnastics, sometimes dance and at other times we learn to play team games.

Fridays are special in Monkey Class. We have our Golden Time. This is our reward for all of our hard work and kind friendship during the week. In Golden Time we get to play lots of different games with our friends. ‘In Golden Time I can play with my cars’ – Jaydon.

Each term our learning has a topic or theme. Most of our exploration is based on our topic. We have started our year off with the theme ‘Around the World in 34 days’.

Monkey Class is a happy and fun class, where we are kind and helpful to each other and where ‘if anyone’s lonely we will go up and play with them’ – Cerys.
