Log Book Extracts 1976 - 1979

The following are extracts that I have taken from the log books that can be found in the school library.

Comments in italics are my own.

1976 - April 27th: Term commenced. One new pupil admitted. Mr James Evans appointed and commenced duties. (My first day - I have put it in as no-one has actually worked longer than the 30 years I spent working there according to records -  although I did have 18 months off doing IT training of teachers for the county in 1989/1990).

1976 - September 8th - New term and the new extension was occupied (see attached photocopy). Also see the photographs of when it was being constructed.

1976 - November 26th - Lombard Car Rally at Bath - Westfield School teamed with Ford Escort car - team and car visited during morning session. Good luck tokens exchanged. (see the photograph).

1977 - March 25th: Fifteen pupils attended Gymnastic Competition in Bath. Diana Lamb placed 2nd in her class of 70 competitors - awarded silver medal. (This was the first time school entered a gym competition).

1978 - Spring Term - At a manager's meeting the volume and speed of traffic along the A367 was a cause for concern. Another request for 'flashing lights' to be made to the county. ( We of course now have them buta t a much later date - wheels move slowly).

1978 - Feb 20th - School closed because of weather conditions - road blocked by snow.

1979 - October 9th - King Cole Ltd brought demonstration stage to school. (We bought it and it is still in use today - September 2009).

Please see the attached photocopy of May 1980 which mentions a few different items including camp and a gym competition winner. (it is labelled log from 1979 but is 1980).

These photographs show the Lombard Rally Team that came to the school in 1976 and on the left the building of the extension to the school.

At the bottom on the right is the view from the field and on the left you can just see the doorway that goes to the school. The photograph would have been taken in what now is the ICT suite which was added much later in about 2004.
