History of the school - the 1960's
By the 1960's Westfield was a thriving community and the school was in need of a facelift. It became a primary school and had a grand opening in 1966. Here are some of the photographs to go with the 1960's.
This photograph is supposed to date from 1964 but I have no details to go with it. Can you help? This photograph is taken at the official opening of the new school in 1966. Mrs Lynes (the Head) is the one stood up. The photograph on the right is presumably the audience she was talking to. Do you recognise anyone on it? Let school know if you do. This was the new kitchen and staff. Can you put names to the ladies? Not easy to read but obviously the event made the paper and shows the new school and the children playing in the sand? Can you tell me more? Here are the staff 1967. I think I know some of them but you may be able to put me right. Back row: David Gravel, Unknown, Mrs Paget, Mr Clark. Front row: Mrs Carter, (probably Oatley then), Mrs Muspratt, Mrs Lynes, Mrs Scott, Mrs Bowell. Thanks to Mrs Rideout and Mrs Carter for help in naming these people. Apologies for any errors, I am only too happy to correct them if you let me know. (The editor).
